MAGAZINE of this month takes a closer look at the 20th Interline Soccer 5-a-side Tournament which took place between the 2nd and 4th February 2004.  We have interviewed the following 'Group Leaders' about our tournament. We have asked them the following questions:

*How long have you been coming to the AirMalta Sports and Social Club Annual Tournament?

**Were you satisfied by the previous Tournaments?

***What is your main purpose of being here in Malta at this time of the year?

****Do you think there's something which we might change to do our tournament more interesting?

*****What do you like most about the Tournament?

******Is there anything in your opinion which is hindering the Tournament and should be abolished to be more successful?

Name: Renato

Surname: Castrucci

Age: 52

Airline:  Alitalia

Occupation: Fare Distribution Manager

* This is my fourth consecutive year in Malta purely for the AirMalta Sports and Social Club Tournament.

**  I am terribly satisfied.  The hotel is excellent.  The  tournament is well organised thanks to the hard working committee.

***My main purpose is to come here with my team to participate in the Airmalta Sports and Social Club Tournament.

****For me it seems that everything is perfect.  Maybe the fields of play?  One can also mention that although there's a qualified nurse present on the pitches, it would make more sense if a fixed 'First Aid' place is determined so that injured players can be attended to more easily.  The referees as well.  They are inconsistent in their decisions.  They have different interpretation of the Rules.

*****It's the friendship with all other Airline teams.  In the previous editions I  have  seen  interesting games between the Libyan Arab Airlines and Airlines from the States, played in the best spirit of the game and ending with the shaking of hands.  This is the purpose of Sports manifestations like this one.

******Brutality.....Players who have intention of doing harm to other players should not be permitted to play in these kind of Tournaments.

            Surname: Braathen

            Age: 37

            Airline:  SAS

            Occupation: Cabin Steward

*Ten Years.

**I am satisfied.  That's why we keep coming back every year.  Strictly speaking, I cannot compare any other Airline Tournament with this one.  This is the best.

***First two years we used to come only because of theTournament and to do some site seeing of Malta.  Nowadays we come to play football, try to win and  meet old friends from other Airlines.

****Sometimes we find some difficulties with the transport from the hotel to the football pitches.  This year, for the first time the breakfast leaves much to be desired.

*****Well organised.

******I cannot think of anything!

Euro Bizzarri -Alitalia-

Fact File

Name: Euro

Surname: Bizarri

Age: 50

Airline:  Alitalia

Occupation: AirTraffic Co-Ordinator

*Six to seven times.

**Definitely  Yes. This is a unique Tournament thanks to the initiative from the Social Club of Airmalta.  One can feel a great friendship between all participating teams.  It's nice to come over here and meet all these friends from all over the world.  The hotel is fantastic and is of superior quality.  I have been coming to Malta  for the past thirty years and I have never seen such good quality hotels before.

***It's the hospitality you are able to provide, the fantastic hotels.  This Tournament is the most popular in the world, with the most number of different Airline teams in the past twenty years.

****The referees. Some of them lack reflexes due to the fact that they are old.  They cannot be sharp like the young ones.  They do not do it intentionally but because of their age.  There's also a problem with football pitches as well.  The width and length are not according to the stipulated rules for  5-a-side soccer.  Some of them are dangerous for the players.

*****It's the young generation. In  Malta they have a good mixture of playing football and entertainment.  A good number of players are still young.  You have a lot of Discotheques, bars and and they have more possibilities where they can entertain themselves.

******Violence on the pitches. Teams which come over here to be violent instead of playing football.  This must be a friendship exchange between Associations.  There's no place for violence in Sport.

        Taha Msherghi -Libyan Arab Airlines-

        Fact File

        Name: Taha

        Surname: Msherghi

        Age: 48

        Airline:  Libyan Arab Airlines

        Occupation: Pilot

*Seven Years

**Absolutely Fantastic.  It's nice.

***The main purpose to see friends and making new friends as well.  We want to show the world that we are friends to everyone.  This is our main aim and we show it everywhere.  It's a pity that the young generation is spoiling what we are building.

****The only problem is the breakfast in the hotel.  You know, for us it's a problem to have Continental Breakfast.

*****The people.  Our Airmalta friends.  The organisation is simply the best.

******The game.....ten minutes is too short.

N.B.  On behalf of the Airmalta Sports and Social Club, I would like to give my sincere deepest sympathies to Mr. Taha Msherghi for the loss of his father during the Tournament.  Mr. Msherghi had to leave early due to this sudden loss.

Terry Mann - Aerlingus LHR-

Fact File

Name: Terry

Surname: Mann

Age: 58

Airline:  Gulfair

Occupation: Finance/Accounts

*Fifteen Years

** Not particularly. We come here to have fun. We are not that serious.  Just on a side note, last year's food was not the same standard as the previous ones.  This year is much better.  Please allow me to congratulate the Committee for this exceptional organization.

***Nowadays it's becoming a social thing, I come here to meet friends I met them the first time through this tournament. It's more social than football.

****Maybe it is the tournament's format but it is also a question of how many teams turn up.  The Committee tries to look at various situations for the participants.

*****Loads of things.  Good weather, socializing, meeting people and making new friends.

******No...... I cannot think of anything.

Due to time restriction, we could not interview each team.  If you feel you can add more with this issue, please feel free to express your views on the Website Forum.
